Sports Vision - Patrick and Menzies - Mar 24

Members of this year’s Cambridge University boat crew have benefited from expert eyesight testing and training from Sports Vision, a specialist practice based at Patrick and Menzies opticians in Braintree.

The eye specialists tested 20 members of the Light Blue and Goldie squads including rowers and cox at the Goldie Boathouse, Cambridge, to ensure they have perfect vision in time for the race. Gavin Rebello, Director, Sports Vision, explains: “We can help the crew build up their peripheral awareness, and help stop glare affecting their performance on the big day. We’re an East Anglian based company and we want to see Cambridge win.”

Sports Vision gave the team crucial advice to increase their eyes’ efficiency and information about contact lenses. Working in conjunction with adidas eyewear, the world’s leading manufacturer of sports eyewear, the team were kitted out with specialist sunglasses, designed to reduce glare, not fog and provide a secure and snug fit. The frame of choice by the team is the T-Sight, which is a wrap around frame, with custom fit options.

Henry Pelly is President of the Cambridge University boat club, and he is excited about the opportunities Sports Vision can provide. He says: “A few seconds can be the difference between winning and losing, we’re doing everything we can to make sure we’re in tip top condition, but it’s interesting to see how science can help us too.”
