Merivale Dinner 2011
Dear Members,
Thank you to everyone who attended the inaugural Merivale Dinner in 2009. The dinner was a great occasion and was the first of what will hopefully become a tradition for the Club. We would therefore like to invite all Members of the CUBC as well as their wives, husbands, and partners to the second Merivale Dinner on Saturday 19th November 2011.
This occasion is intended to be a celebration of the history, people and spirit of the CUBC. In particular, we hope to draw on the accomplishments of John Goldie and the successes that the crews that now race under his name have bought to the Club since 1965. We also hope to reflect on the important relationship that Goldie and Blue Boat crews have shared over the past 46 years.
The dinner will again be held at St John’s, the college of Charles Merivale, founder of the Boat Race. There will be a drinks reception at 7:00pm with dinner following at 7:45pm. The entrance to St John’s College is found at the north end of St John’s Street, CB2 1TP, and the reception will be held in the Palmerston Room, which is located across the river (signposts will show the route from the entrance). Wine for the dinner will be available to purchase at the reception. The Main Hall is situated in the first courtyard. The Hawks’ Club and St. John’s College bars will be open after the dinner, with directions given at that time.
We would also love to receive any photographs you have of past Boat Race campaigns (in digital format), to display on screens at the dinner and to build on the Club’s archives. Please email these photos to merivaledinner@cubc.org.uk. This address can also be used for any questions.
Finally, the triallists of the 2012 campaign will have recently competed in the Fours Head of the River and will be facing selection for the Trial VIIIs race in December. As such, the dinner will be an opportunity to meet the coaches and the current squad, and for them to experience the CUBC in its fullest health.
We hope as many of you as possible will join us for the second Merivale Dinner. We look forward to seeing all of you in Cambridge this November!
Yours,
The Merivale Dinner Committee
