It is with great sadness that the Club informs its members of the passing of Michael Lapage (Blue, 1948).  An alumnus of Monkton Combe School, Lapage’s push to row for Cambridge after leaving school was delayed by his service in the Fleet Air Arm as a pilot in both the European and South East Asian theatres. After arriving at Cambridge in 1946 to read Geography at Selwyn, Lapage made the winning and record-setting 1948 Blue Boat in his final year, and then was a silver medallist in the 8+ at the 1948 London Olympics, and then a bronze medallist in the 1950 Empire Games.

He was ordained as a missionary and served in Kenya for many years before returning to the UK. He will be remembered with gratitude for his role in a record-setting Blue Boat, and with fondness for his interest in CUBC and its progress on his frequent visits to Henley.

The Reverend Lapage’s funeral will be held on 9th August at 12.00pm at St Andrew’s Church, Whitchurch, near Tavistock Devon.
